Art has not been an easily definable term in my own words. I am always so inspired by so many types of art, that it becomes less and less easy to define in my own category, especially as an artist myself. In that, I don’t necessarily strive to fit a certain category. Sometimes I find myself in a common category; sometimes I find myself in a niche. As an artist, I tell stories in pictures and compositions. I love when a button hits or a beat hits and the picture is just there.
As an actor, I pull from others. They call, I respond. This works great for comedy, and other similar works I’ve been in. I also love learning the world I’m living in, and it better contextualizes my place as an actor what my circumstances are. The more I understand inside jokes of the time, class, location, the more in tune I feel with myself and the character, because we both then carry similar knowledge.
I think exploration is the groundwork of myself as an artist. In a classic term, it purely means experimenting with storytelling—non-linear against linear, realism against naturalism, etc.—to find what truly speaks to me, and maybe one category will never speak to me. Maybe a combination of categories will speak to me, but I am constantly working to find where I land as an artist.
